Learn about learning from a child

Let us first know some bare facts about child :
  • Babies brains "empty".
  • Babies are too curious.
  • Babies are far more persistent than grown ups.
  • Babies don't take things for granted.
This facts itself are powerful tools for us and opens a gateway to the new process of learning which I call "baby's way". Have you ever though why babies behave the way they do? While they behave in their own specific way but I guess the prime reason is that they want to learn.

So let us see what we should learn from them:

Focus

Babies brains are empty : When their brain is empty they really don't have any kind of distractions. They can focus on one particular thing completely. They give their 100% to want they are doing. While we keep on thinking about many other things while working of many other thing. This reduces our efficiency drastically.

Don't take things for granted

Babies have tremendous urge to know and learn. They don't take things from granted. Have not you observed they way they learn new words? They speak that word, then speak it again and keep on speaking it even at those places where word is completely irrelevant. At that point relevance is not important. They just want to learn it by hook or crook. We don't do that. We don't bother to apply too much brain and give up.

Their level of curiosity is so high that they break open many toys just to know what lies within. Even engineering students like me are not much interested in doing that.

Persistence

This goes inline with the above point. They are persistent. They keep on doing things till they get it. They try to move, then crawl, then try to stand and then fall. Even if they are hurt, they try to do it till they are up and running. We abandon things that we find difficult.

There can be many other things that we can learn from a child but this are the ones I could actually trace. If you have any further ideas, leave a comment and I would be glad to put my ideas on that.
